Designing your dress

Exploring ideas and designing your dress

Initially we will talk about your wedding plans and the ideas you have for your dress, it’s always a good idea to bring any pictures or cuttings of things you like, perhaps you have a dress with a neckline you particularly like and would like to incorporate that or perhaps you’d like to take a family heirloom as a starting point such as a piece of jewellery. Think about the image you want to create, the ‘you’ you want to convey and the ‘you’ your partner will want to see. Once we’ve discussed your ideas I will show you various fabric options and draw up some sketches for you to choose from.

Making the pattern

Once you have made your choice I will take your measurements and start work on the pattern which will be cut especially for you. Then I will make a ‘toile’ which is a mock-up of the dress.

Fitting your dress

At your toile fitting we will refine the shape and the fit of the dress. If you would like to make any changes to the style of the dress at this stage, this can also be done. Once the toile is perfected I will start making your actual dress. You will usually need another two to three fittings before the dress is finished.
